A McGladrey Update from TPC Sawgrass

We just can’t help ourselves. We have to start this week’s update by letting you know that McGladrey LLP’s very own Tony Ceci, from McGladrey’s Stamford, CT office, had a thrill of a lifetime when he caddied for Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco during the PLAYER’S Championship Pro-Am at TPC Sawgrass. Tony won the opportunity by placing the highest bid during a charitable auction. Nice, huh? (Here’s a cool shot of Chris on the 14th fairway, by the way.) Which PGA Tour professional would you like to caddie for if you had the chance? Fellow Team McGladrey members Zach Johnson and Davis Love III are playing in the PLAYER’S Championship, as well, along with Heath Slocum, winner of the 2010 McGladrey Classic and 2011 winner Ben Crane. Sounds like “the McGladrey connection” to us! We’ll be pulling for “our boys!” Before things kicked off at Sawgrass, a few key leaders from McGladrey met with local leaders in Jacksonville, FL to celebrate being “Halfway to The Classic.” A highlight of this red-carpet event included a panel discussion featuring Chris and Davis. It’s hard to believe we’ll be heading to Sea Island for our third annual tournament (Oct. 15-21) in just a little more than five months. We can hardly wait! And speaking of The McGladrey Classic, the Davis Love Foundation announced recently that Southeast Georgia Health System will be the official health care partner of the Foundation and the 2012 McGladrey. SGHS was an important partner for The Classic last year, and we look forward to continuing that partnership in 2012, as they not only provide their medical expertise, but also serve as the presenting sponsor of the Gary Allan Concert and McGladrey Classic Youth Day. If you want to join in the fun of this year’s event, you can purchase tickets and/or sign up to volunteer. We hope to see you at Sea Island!

Halfway to Giving Back to the Community!

It’s hard to believe but it’s already May, which means we’re about half-way to the 2012 McGladrey Classic (Oct. 15-21 at beautiful Sea Island)! To celebrate, a few key leaders from McGladrey will gather with local business leaders in Jacksonville, Florida next week (Tues., May 8) for a “Halfway to the Classic” evening event. One of the highlights will be a panel discussion featuring Team McGladrey members Davis Love III and Chris DiMarco, who will answer questions about The McGladrey Classic and the game of golf in front of about 100 of Jacksonville’s finest. We’re hoping to snag a few pictures from our on-the-ground “reporter” to share with you via Twitter and/or this blog next week, so stay tuned... While we’re really looking forward to the tournament and all of the related activities, we’re most excited about the opportunity The McGladrey Classic provides for us and others to give back to the community, which is a key component of the game of golf – and of the way that McGladrey does business. That’s one of the major reasons golf is such a good “fit” for McGladrey. Just last week, The McGladrey Classic announced a new program to raise dollars for charities – Birdies Fore Love. Learn more here. Giving back is also something that’s extremely important to Team McGladrey which includes not only Davis and Chris, but PGA Tour Professional Zach Johnson and LPGA Tour Professional Natalie Gulbis. In fact, Natalie recently posted a video about what she does when she isn’t touring and, you guessed it, it has to do with community service. View the video here. If you share our passion for giving back to the community, you might want to consider volunteering for the 2012 McGladrey Classic. More than 665 have already signed up to help make this year’s event a success, but we still need more, and would love to see YOU at Sea Island! You can sign up online. Team McGladrey: Busy and Growing!

Exciting news this week! Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson tweeted that he and his wife Kim are expecting their third child this fall. Congrats to the Johnson family – your friends with McGladrey will be anxiously awaiting the arrival of your new addition! While it’s hard to compete with that type of news, there are a number of exciting things happening in the golf world this week. To begin, in conjunction with the Zurich Classic in New Orleans, the PGA TOUR is encouraging golf enthusiasts to submit questions for 2011 McGladrey Classic Winner Ben Crane via Direct Connect, PGATOUR.COM’s video franchise that helps fans get closer to a PGA TOUR pro each week. Host John Swantek might use YOUR question when he chats this week with Ben! Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco will be playing in the Zurich Classic, as well (and says his waist expands each year during this tournament due to all of that good Cajun cooking). You can also read this Q&A with Ben Crane to find out what he has to say about Bubba's shot, the Golf Boys and more. Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis was in Hawaii last week for the LPGA LOTTE Championship. Check out this amazing Twitpic she posted to Twitter. This week she’s in Mobile, Alabama for the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic. If you’re in the area, stop by and see her. And next week, the McGladrey team in Charlotte will be checking out the Wells Fargo Championship right here in our own backyard. Chris and Zach are scheduled to be here, along with fellow Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III. We’re keeping our fingers crossed from some of that beautiful Carolina weather for which our great state is so well-known. Gary Allan Joins The McGladrey Classic…and Other News from Sea Island

Big news this week! Country Music Singer Gary Allan, who burst on the scene with “Her Man,” which peaked at #7 on the charts, will perform at this year’s McGladrey Classic. The concert is scheduled for Wed., Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. You can listen to some of Gary’s songs here. Which is your favorite? Tickets for the concert and for the tournament are now on sale, and can be purchased online, by the way. Get yours now!

Congratulations to Carl Pettersson for picking up his fifth PGA TOUR victory last weekend at the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town, and to our very own Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson for finishing in the No. 2 slot!

Unfortunately, a cracked rib kept Team McGladrey Member and five-time Heritage champion Davis Love III out of last week’s field, but he is confident he’ll be ready to play again by the Zurich Classic or Wells Fargo Championship. You can hear first-hand from Davis about how the bunny slopes in Sun Valley, Idaho contributed to his injury. And while Davis didn’t make it to the Heritage, there was a Love at Harbour Town – Mark Love, Davis’ brother and the executive director of The McGladrey Classic, caddied for Chris Kirk.

This week, The McGladrey Classic announced the 2012 tournament’s Tix4Kids charity program participants. You can stay current on this and other announcements from the tournament website, Facebook and/or Twitter accounts, and you can now follow them on Pinterest, as well.

Congratulations to Bubba Watson, winner of the 2012 Masters! It was a great tournament, and Bubba’s emotional win was well-deserved. Check out his surprise visit to the Golf Channel’s Morning Drive earlier this week – very cool!

Okay, well…his birthday isn’t actually until Friday, the 13th, but we wanted to begin this week’s post by wishing a very happy birthday to Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III! And speaking of Davis, it was on this very day back in 1987 that he had his first victory at the Heritage Classic – just 25 short years ago. My how times flies!

Davis’ daughter Lexie, who recently graduated from the University of Georgia, is currently working as a tournament assistant with The McGladrey Classic. She recently recounted what it was like growing up with a dad on TOUR. You can read her first-hand account here.

This week (April 9 – 15), Team McGladrey members Chris DiMarco and Zach Johnson are playing in the 44th annual RBC Heritage at the Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island. Of course, we’ll be pulling for them! Check out Chris’ digital press conference on Facebook.

Next week, The McGladrey Classic will announce the 2012 tournament’s Tix4Kids charity program participants, and will also launch ticket sales. You won’t want to miss these important happenings. We’d like to begin this week’s update with a big THANK YOU to the 500+ volunteers who have already signed up to support the 2012 McGladrey Classic! While the volunteer window for previous years’ volunteers opened a few weeks ago, the window opens April 9 for all other volunteers. If you’re interested in being a part of this year’s excitement, sign up to volunteer now. We would love to see YOU at Sea Island in October!

Congratulations to Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis who finished tied for eighth last week at the women’s first major of the year, the Kraft Nabisco Championship. We’re proud of you, Natalie!

Of course, the big news in golf this week is that The Masters is underway in August, GA. 2012 McGladrey Classic winner Ben Crane is playing, as is Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson. We’d love to see one of them win. Who do you think will take home the coveted green jacket?

To wrap things up this week, we’d like to offer another congratulations – this one to Dru Love (Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III’s son) on his decision to attend the University of Alabama in the fall. Roll Tide!

Spring Has Sprung and Golf is in the Air!

Ah, spring – when pollen…and golf balls fill the air! One of our favorite early signs of spring is The Masters, which is coming up next week (April 2 – 8) at Augusta National. 2011 McGladrey Classic Winner Ben Crane is on the invitee list, as is Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson so, while we won’t be lucky enough to be there in person this year, you can bet we’ll be following closely. Who’s your favorite to win?

Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco made a stop at the Shell Houston Open earlier this week. And both he and Zach have committed to play in the 44th annual RBC Heritage the following week (April 9-15) at the Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island. Of course, we’ll be watching things there as well.

The McGladrey Classic recently spoke with Mark Davis, a 2011 volunteer, who was acknowledged by his volunteer chairman for his outstanding volunteerism during the 2011 tournament. You can read the story here. And speaking of volunteers, if you’re interested in helping make the 2012 McGladrey Classic a success, you’ll be able to sign up to volunteer beginning April 9. The Corrigan Brothers (the Irish band who reached 7 million YouTube hits with their international hit, “There’s no one as Irish as Barack Obama”) recently wrote a little “diddy,” celebrating fellow Irishman Rory McIlroy’s #1 World ranking. Give it a listen.

A bit closer to home, Pukka® Headwear announced that it is expanding its presence in golf by partnering with the Davis Love Foundation as the official headwear provider of The McGladrey Classic (Oct. 15 – 21). We can hardly wait to see their merchandise at Sea Island!

Speaking of Davis – who is not only the 2012 U.S. Ryder Cup Captain, but a member of Team McGladrey – he’s keeping an eye on players and coaches in anticipation of this year’s big event. You can follow his captain’s blog here. And if you haven’t already watched it, check out Davis’ 2012 McGladrey Classic excitement video. (WE’RE already getting excited about returning to Sea Island. In the interest of keeping it “all in the family,” we wanted to let you know that McGladrey Classic Executive Director Mark Love (Davis’ brother) has published a video, which takes viewers through various aspects of the game of golf. Check out the first in his educational series on YouTube.

Finally, Team McGladrey members Chris DiMarco and Zach Johnson are playing in the Transitions Championship in Florida this week, and Natalie Gulbis is at the RR Donelley LPGA Founders Cup in Phoenix, Arizona. Go, Team McGladrey – we’ll be pulling for each of you!

DL3 is in the Spotlight This Week

Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III was in the spotlight this week. First of all, he hosted a fan chat this week, where he answered numerous questions, including:
• What’s your favorite golf course in England?
• What’s your favorite meal?
• What would be your dream foursome?

In addition to the online chat, The McGladrey Classic “Excitement” video was released this week. You can watch it on YouTube.

Finally, the McGladrey/Davis Love III commercial has gotten a lot of attention this week through several social media channels. If you haven’t yet seen it, you can watch the commercial on YouTube. It’s pretty funny if we do say so ourselves!

Team McGladrey members Chris DiMarco and Zach Johnson are generating attention this week, too. Chris is playing in the Puerto Rico Open at the Trump International Golf Club. Michael Bradley is there to defend the title he won last year and in 2009, while the 2010 winner, Derek Lamely, is also in the week’s field. Zach is playing in the WGC-Cadillac Championship at TPC Blue Monster at Doral in Florida. Should make for some good golfing! Will you be following either tournament?

It's Been a Hole-in-One Kind of Week!

This week – and today, in particular – has been exciting for a couple of reasons. Earlier today, Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III made a hole-in-one at The Honda Classic, putting him near the top of the tournament leader board! You can bet we’ll be following him, as well as Team McGladrey member Chris DiMarco throughout the weekend. Follow the leader board.

Today is exciting for another reason – the volunteer window for returning 2011 volunteers wanting to volunteer for the 2012 McGladrey Classic (Oct. 15-21) is now open! If you volunteered last year, you have the month of March to sign up for this year’s event and have the opportunity to secure your spot on your returning committee or receive first request to be placed on a new committee. If you haven’t volunteered in the past and you’re interested in contributing to the success of this year’s tournament, new volunteer registration will begin on April 9. An Update on Team McGladrey and Sea Island

After spending some time with Team McGladrey at Pelican Hill last week, we’ve settled back into our offices, and Team McGladrey is back on the move. This week:

Zach Johnson is playing in the Accenture Match Play Championship (Feb. 20-26) at the Ritz-Carlton Country Club in Arizona. You can watch on The Golf Channel.

Natalie Gulbis is a long way from home. She’s playing in the HSBC Women’s Champions at the Tanah Merah Country Club in Singapore. You can catch the action on Thursday and Friday on The Golf Channel. Check out this great action photo from the tournament photo gallery.

We’d like to remind our readers that Sea Island’s “Fairways Foursome” contest is underway, with entries continuing through Wed., Feb. 29. For every entry received, Sea Island will donate $1 to the Davis Love Foundation. The winner will be announced on or about March 15, 2012. Pelican Hill = A Hole-in-One for McGladrey!

Earlier this week, a small team of McGladrey leaders and key clients gathered at the infamous Resort at Pelican Hill for a McGladrey Private Equity Symposium during which McGladrey leaders talked with clients and potential clients about value creation through operational performance improvement and the state of global fundraising for private equity.

One of the event highlights was a “Team Behind the Player” session featuring Team McGladrey members Chris DiMarco, Natalie Gulbis and Zach Johnson answering questions from McGladrey moderator Colin Sanderson. Topics focused on how members of their respective teams demonstrate understanding of what it takes to help them succeed on the course, how things have changed over the course of their careers, how their teams help them gear up for reaching their goals, etc. The video will be available soon. Check back here for a link to hear Team McGladrey’s own words about the “power of being understood.”

In the meantime, we want to extend our congratulations to Peter Lambert, Senior Vice President for Willis for getting a hole-in-one on #4 at Pelican Hill’s Ocean South Course. Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson was a witness for the happy occasion…and was only just a little envious that he wasn’t the one who made the shot.

Giving Back Through Golf

We’d like to start this week’s update by saying how proud we were to hear updates from Capitol Hill earlier this week as athletes and advocates from one of our favorite nonprofits – Special Olympics - met with members of Congress to discuss education, health and employment opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities. Their goal is to continue the commitment to the work of the late Eunice Kennedy Shriver, and to make sure that people with intellectual and development disabilities (IDD) are top-of-mind when critical decisions are made for the country. Athletes and ambassadors met face-to-face with Congressional representatives in hundreds of scheduled appointments. Following the meetings, a candlelight vigil was held as a poignant reminder of everyone’s ability to aid in the fight for civil rights for all. We support Special Olympics!

Also this week, the PGA TOUR Wives Association teamed up with TOMS Shoes for a “Style Your Sole Party” at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Shoes, designed by the likes of Darius Rucker (who gave an outstanding performance during the 2011 McGladrey Classic, by the way), Bill Murray, over very own Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson, and other celebrities and professional golfers, are available for bidding on e-Bay. All proceeds benefit the PGA TOUR Wives Association and the First Tee of Monterey County. Here’s a picture of what Zach’s “inner designer” created.

Speaking of the 2012 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, it’s underway Feb. 6 – 12. In addition to Zach, Team McGladrey members Davis Love III and Chris DiMarco are playing, along with a virtual “who’s who” of celebrities, including Huey Lewis, Chris O’Donnell, Ray Ramano, Darius Rucker and many others. While the event is guaranteed to be loads of fun, the real winners are the hundreds of nonprofit organizations which benefit from the proceeds of the tournament. To date, more than $85 million has been raised through the Monterey Peninsula Foundation, which is committed to funding organizations and programs that demonstrate “the greatest positive effect.”

After Pebble Beach, Chris and Zach will be joined by Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis at an “Ultimate Golf Experience” for select McGladrey clients and potential clients. A small contingent from the McGladrey sports marketing team will be there, so look for updates on Facebook and Twitter (@McGladrey), and check back here next week for event highlights, and maybe even a few words from Team McGladrey members themselves!

Things Are Hopping for The McGladrey Classic and Team McGladrey

Earlier this week, The McGladrey Classic team sent out the tournament’s latest newsletter chock full of good information related to the 2012 event (Oct. 15 – 21). This issue includes information and links to Tournament Director Scott Reid’s blog, Matt Adams’ Fairways of Life radio show, event Pro-Am opportunities, and the Golden Isles Convention and Visitors Bureau’s new website. If you haven’t read it yet, do it now.

Volunteer registration for the 2012 McGladrey Classic begins March 1 – mark your calendar so you can be one of the first to volunteer.

Also this week (Jan. 30 – Feb. 5), McGladrey Classic Tournament Host Davis Love III and defending champion Ben Crane are paired together for the first two rounds of the Waste Management Phoenix Open (Jan. 30 – Feb. 5). If you’re lucky enough to be there in person, you might want to check out “The Best Places to Watch the 2012 WM Phoenix Open” before you head to the course. Finally, the LPGA launched a new video ad campaign this week, “See why it’s different out here,” featuring none other than Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis and other LPGA TOUR players). Golf, Lost Love and a New App

Congratulations to Mark Wilson, the 2012 Humana Challenge champion. Our own Team McGladrey members Zach Johnson and Chris DiMarco played well during the event, too, finishing T8 and T30 respectively. Chris is now playing (Jan. 26 – 29) in the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California. And there's another McGladrey connection at Torrey Pines this week: 2011 McGladrey Classic Winner Ben Crane is playing, as well. Watch the live coverage.

Speaking of Ben Crane, he launched his latest video, “Lost Love,” earlier this week. Click here to see what he might be doing if he hadn’t decided to pursue golf. And if you think THAT was funny, check out some of his previous videos. They’re sure to make you laugh.

Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III is at the PGA Show in Orlando today, signing autographs at the Bridgestone booth. If you’re there – stop by and tell him “hello” from his friends at McGladrey.

Also this week, the PGA TOUR launched its official (and free) HD iPad app, featuring live scoring, stats and video. You can download it in the App store. Let us know what you think – we’ll share your feedback with the TOUR.

Finally, the Abu Dhabi HBC Golf Championship is now underway (Jan. 26 – 29). In the field are 97 European TOUR winners, 12 Major Championship winners with 28 Major titles, six players in the Top 10 of the Official World Golf Rankings and four World Number Ones. This week, Sea Island, home of The McGladrey Classic, announced the “Sea Island Fairways Foursome Sweepstakes.” The contest will give one lucky winner and three of his/her guests a three-night, four-day stay (four bedrooms) at The Lodge at Sea Island Golf Club. The prize package includes a round of golf for four, autographed Sea Island golf bags for the winner and each guest, a two-hour golf clinic and a $500 Peter Millar gift certificate for the winner. Also this week, we ran across a nice article on GolfWeek.com featuring @DL3 discussing his goals related to the Ryder Cup this year, and how difficult it when it comes time for his Captain’s choice decisions. It’s worth a read.

Congratulations to Steve Stricker for winning the first 2012 PGA TOUR event – the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Hawaii! We couldn’t resist sharing this great (and funny) picture from the event.

Also this past weekend (Jan. 7 and 8), Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis was at the Winn Junior Cup Challenge at the Rio Secco Golf Club in Nevada. It looks as if a good time was had by all in this friendly “East vs. West” competition. (We also to know that Natalie celebrated a birthday that weekend. Happy birthday, Natalie!)

This week, we have our first planning session of the year for the 2012 McGladrey Classic. (This will be the third year of the event.) We’re looking forward to continuing the tradition, and to making some new and interesting additions to this year’s event. If you’ve got suggestions, send them to us – we’ll factor them into our thinking!

Also this week, we’ll be watching Team McGladrey members Chris DiMarco, Zach Johnson and Davis Love III playing in the Sony Open at the Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii Jan. 9-15. (Aloha, guys!) You can keep up with the leader board through the event website.

Chris, Zach and Davis won’t have much of a rest after Hawaii, as they have all committed to play in the Humana Challenge (formerly known as the Bob Hope Classic) in LaQuinta, California Jan. 26-22. The new Bob Hope Memorial Trophy will be awarded to this year’s champion. (We’re hoping one of our guys will take it home!) If you can’t be there in person, you can catch live tournament coverage on The Golf Channel from noon to 3 p.m., PST Jan. 19 – 20, and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., PST Jan. 21 and 22.

It’s hard to believe, but yet another year has come and gone, and we’re already beginning our planning for the third annual McGladrey Classic, which will be held in beautiful Sea Island Oct. 15 – 21, 2012.

And while we’re in the planning stages for our event, Team McGladrey members Chris DiMarco, Zach Johnson and Davis Love III will be kicking off the New Year by playing in the Sony Open at the Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii Jan. 9-15. (Zach won the tournament in 2009.) You can keep up with the leader board through the event website.

With all of the holiday hustle-and-bustle over the past few weeks, we wanted to make sure you were aware of a few things that happened recently:

• The McGladrey Classic earned an award for “Best New Promotional idea” from the PGA TOUR during the December Tournament Advisory Council meeting. The McGladrey Classic was singled out for its “Caddie for Love” promotion campaign, which resulted in more than 22,000 fans submitting essays explaining why they should be picked to caddie for Tournament Host Davis Love III during the 2011 event. • Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis interviewed with SiriusXM Radio’s Matt Adams. (This was actually a bit before the holidays, but we thought our readers would find it of interest.) You can listen to the interview on the LPGA TOUR website.
• The game of golf lost a legend last month when LPGA Founder Bettye Danoff, otherwise known as “Mighty Mite,” passed away in Texas on Dec. 22, 2011 at the age of 88. She will be missed “mightily.”

The holidays are in full swing, and one of our favorite “findings” this week was from the LPGA TOUR – postings from a number of TOUR members about their favorite holiday decorations. Our very own Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis is included among those sharing their favs. Check it out.

And speaking of Natalie, earlier this week, she hosted the Natalie Gulbis Golf Classic, benefitting Boys & Girls Clubs of Henderson, NV – a great cause. We admire Natalie’s dedication to giving back during this holiday season, and appreciate the “shout out” she gave to McGladrey through her Twitter post.

Also earlier this week, we were thrilled to learn that The McGladrey Classic earned an award for “Best New Promotional Idea” by the PGA TOUR during the TOUR’s Tournament Advisory Council meeting this month. 'Tis the Season to be Busy for Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson

While December is usually a busy month for everyone, it has been particularly busy for Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson. Last week’s Chevron Challenge was a heart-stopper, with Tiger Woods etching out a one-shot win over Zach. The final hour was up for grabs until Tiger came through in the clutch on the last two holes. Great job, Zach - we’re proud of you!

Earlier this week, Zach launched his new website. The site is chock-full of photos, “Zactoids” and other interesting information about Zach, his team, his partners (including McGladrey), his foundation and The PGA TOUR. You can even send a note directly to Zach from the site. Check it out – you won’t be disappointed!

What a Great Week!

This week as been full of positive news at McGladrey. First, we kicked off our return from the Thanksgiving holiday with the wonderful news of a three-year extension to The McGladrey Classic, taking the tournament through 2015! We look forward to returning to Sea Island for the event for another four years, and to continuing our partnership with the PGA TOUR and the Davis Love Foundation.

As if that weren’t enough to make for an exciting week, earlier today, we announced the completion of the acquisition of RSM McGladrey by McGladrey & Pullen.

Since 1999, McGladrey & Pullen has operated under an alternative practice structure with RSM McGladrey through which McGladrey & Pullen provided clients with public accounting services, and RSM McGladrey provided non-public accounting services, including tax and consulting services.

This change returns our firm – which will continue to go to market under the McGladrey brand – to a traditional partner-owned CPA firm structure. As a reunited firm, we can effectively and efficiently provide our clients with seamless access to world-class resources to drive their success.

We’re building on a foundation of strength, and we will continue to make significant investments in our brand, as is evidenced, in part by our renewed partnership of The McGladrey Classic. We hope we’ll see you at Sea Island next October!

Giving Thanks

This time of year, our thoughts naturally turn to giving thanks, and here at McGladrey we have so much to be thankful for, just of few of which are:

• our more than 2,100 employees who recently gave back to their local communities by participating in volunteer activities for area nonprofits through our firm’s second nationwide Volunteer Day,
• an extremely successful 2011 McGladrey Classic at beautiful Sea Island, which raised approximately $300,000 for local and national nonprofits, and
• our great partnerships with Team McGladrey members PGA TOUR professionals Zach Johnson, Davis Love III and Chris DiMarco, and LPGA TOUR Professional Natalie Gulbis. (Both Chris and Natalie on The Golf Channel’s Morning Drive this week – Chris as a guest host on Nov. 17, and Natalie as a guest on Nov. 15. You can read her story online.

We’re also thankful for the generosity of The President’s Cup, which is underway this week in Australia. More than $23 million has been distributed to 380 charities in 15 countries since the event’s inception in 1994. We’ll be watching this weekend, and pulling for Team USA!

PGA TOUR and Team McGladrey Updates

Earlier this week, the PGA TOUR posted an article about Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson (Did you know that you can count on two fingers the number of players who won at least one PGA TOUR event a season during the four-year stretch from 2007-2010? Most would guess the first answer – Phil Mickelson, but did you know that the other answer is none other than our own Zach Johnson?!) Check out the “rest of the story” here.

Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis posted a neat picture from this week’s Wendy’s Three Tour Pro-Am, benefitting adoption. Check it out on Twitter.

Also this week, the TOUR announced nominees for the PGA TOUR Player of the Year for 2011: Keegan Bradley, Luke Donald, Bill Haas, Webb Simpson and Nick Watney. The award is voted on by PGA TOUR players, and the winner will be announced in December. If you had a ballot, who would you choose?

Sadly Luke Donald’s father passed away unexpectedly this week. On behalf of Team McGladrey, we extend our condolences.

Missing Team McGladrey and The McGladrey Classic

With the 2011 McGladrey Classic behind us, we’re missing Sea Island and Team McGladrey, so we’ve been scanning the web and social media channels to get our golf “fix” for the week. Here’s a sampling of what we found:

This is one for the “too cute for words” file – an adorable twitpic of Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson’s “pup” on Halloween…

We also found a nice picture of Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis on #17 at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Verde Beach, Florida.

Finally, Sea Island has posted to their website a nice update about the island and The McGladrey Classic, which includes a cool quote from PGATour.com correspondent Stan Awtrey, who says, “There are many great resorts in the United States, but here’s one vote that says Sea Island holds the Royal Flush.” We’re a bit partial, ourselves, and agree with this assessment. We can hardly wait to return to Sea Island for next year’s tournament (Oct. 15 through 21, 2012).
